Myotherapy vs Remedial Massage: Where to Start
Which appointment should you book?

At My Body Clinic, myotherapy combines assessment, treatment and rehabilitation in one session. Remedial massage focuses on understanding and treating muscle tension, stiffness and changes in movement. Both are tailored to you, and the techniques can overlap.
If you are unsure which to book, start with what you want help with. Tell our Bentleigh team what has been bothering you, how long it has been happening and which activities you are finding difficult. They can explain the available appointments and practitioners before you choose.
This guide compares how we approach the two services. It is a starting point for a conversation, rather than an assessment of your symptoms.
How the appointments compare
| Myotherapy | Remedial massage |
|---|---|
| A detailed assessment looks at movement, strength, range of motion and joint function. | Your therapist considers muscle and soft-tissue function, tension and what may be contributing to how you feel. |
| Treatment may combine hands-on work with mobility, strengthening or movement exercises. | Hands-on techniques and pressure are adapted to your needs, comfort and response. |
| Your practitioner explains the assessment, the approach and the next step. | Your therapist discusses what is bothering you and what you want from the appointment. |

The difference is not simply pressure or one technique
Remedial massage is not defined by how firm it feels. Deeper does not always mean better. At My Body Clinic, both services may use soft-tissue techniques, joint mobilisation, dry needling or cupping where appropriate. The choice depends on your assessment and comfort, rather than a fixed list of treatments every visit must include.
For example, if desk work leaves you feeling tight, explain when you notice it and what movements feel difficult. If training is your concern, describe the activity you want to return to. That context is more useful to the team than requesting a particular technique before you have been assessed.
Before your first visit
Ask which practitioner can assess your concern, what the initial appointment includes, how long to allow and what to bring. Share relevant previous treatment and health information with your practitioner. If you plan to claim through private health insurance, check your own cover and the specific service and practitioner before booking.
You can meet our team or contact the clinic to talk through the appointment options.
