Remedial massage is a targeted form of massage therapy that focuses on understanding what’s contributing to muscle tension, pain, stiffness or changes in the way you move.
Rather than simply working on the area that feels sore, remedial massage looks at the bigger picture. Your therapist will consider how your muscles and surrounding tissues are functioning, where you may be holding tension and whether other areas of the body could be contributing to what you’re feeling.
Your treatment may include a variety of techniques depending on your individual needs. This can include deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, stretching, muscle release, joint mobilisation and other hands-on techniques. Where appropriate, your therapist may also incorporate techniques such as dry needling or cupping as part of your treatment. The techniques used will depend on what your therapist finds, what you’re comfortable with and how your body responds.
And while remedial massage can involve firmer pressure, deeper doesn’t always mean better. The aim isn’t to make a treatment as intense as possible, it’s about using the right techniques and the right amount of pressure to create a positive change in how your muscles and tissues feel and function.
Remedial massage can be useful whether you’re dealing with ongoing muscular tension, feeling the effects of work or everyday activities, recovering from training or sport, or simply noticing that your body isn’t moving or feeling quite as good as it normally does.
At My Body Clinic, every remedial massage is tailored to the individual. Your therapist will work with you to understand what’s bothering you and what you’d like to get out of your treatment, rather than following the same routine for everyone.
The overall goal is to reduce unnecessary tension, support better movement and help your body feel and function at its best.
